The audio/video keeps starting and stopping or buffering
Stopping or buffering can be caused by network congestion or heavy Internet traffic.

Network congestion can occur at any time due to the following problems:
  • Your internet bandwidth is limited (less than 100 kbps for audio or 1 Mbps for video)
  • You are trying to access an event during peak Internet traffic hours.
  • There is heavy traffic on your company network.
  • If you are connecting to the Internet from outside Northern America.
Click here to test your Internet connection speed.

To help with this problem, you can also try the following:
  1. Refresh the webcast page, or close out and return to the webcast at a later time.
  2. If you are connected to the Internet wirelessly, move closer to the wireless router or switch to a wired connection.
  3. Reduce the amount of applications you have running, especially those that may use the Internet such as email applications.
*If you are using Windows Media Player™, increase the player buffering time:
  1. Open the standalone Windows Media Player™ (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment)
  2. Click Tools in the player menu (may have to right click top of the player area).
  3. Select "Options," and click on Performance tab
  4. In the "Network buffering" section, increase the time to 30 seconds.
  5. Click on the Network tab, then under "Protocols for MMS URLs" - uncheck all EXCEPT the HTTP box.
  6. Click Ok and Ok to apply the settings.
My player is playing but I don't hear audio:
Please verify that your speakers/headphones are plugged-in, turned on, and the volume control is set to an audible level.
  1. Locate the speaker icon on the task bar in the lower right area of your computer screen.
  2. Left-click, and a slide bar appears above the icon. Adjust the slider. Each movement should result in a bell sound.
  3. If you do not hear the bell, right-click the icon and choose "Open Volume Controls". A play control window appears.
  4. Verify that none of the "mute" or "mute all" designations are checked (red cross out icon on speaker icon), and that each slider is set to the middle or higher.
If you hear the bell and are satisfied with your chosen levels, but still do not hear the sound via the webcast media player, then please locate the volume controls located on your chosen media player. Windows Media Player™: The right portion of the embedded player features a button with a speaker icon, and a slide bar. Verify that the speaker icon is not depressed (which mutes the audio with a small "cross-out circle"), and that the level is turned up (slider bar set past the middle to the right). On the external player, these controls are located in the bottom middle area. Adobe Flash Player™: The right portion of the embedded player features a button with a speaker icon, and a slide bar. Verify that the speaker icon is not depressed (which mutes the audio with a small "x"), and that the level is turned up (slider bar set past the middle to the right).
The slides are not advancing automatically
If you are using Windows Media Player™, script commands will need to be enabled to receive automatic slide advancing.

To Enable script commands in the Windows Media Player™:
  1. Open the standalone WM player (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment)
  2. Click Tools in the player menu (may have to right click top of the player area)
  3. Select "Options," and click on Security tab
  4. Check the box for both "Run script commands when present" and "Run script commands in rich media streams when the Player is in a Web page"
  5. Click "Apply" and then "Ok" to apply the settings.

Users of corporate or personal firewalls:
Once you have downloaded and installed the media player plugin into your web browser, you may still have difficulties accessing the webcast presentation due to your company's firewall security. You may switch to a different player in an attempt to get around this issue. We offer the choice of Adobe Flash Player™ or Windows Media Player™. If neither of the players work, you may need to contact your IT department.

Many corporate and personal computers are behind firewalls -- security devices that control what a computer sends and receives to and from the Internet. In order to access a webcast, the firewall must allow our cookies through to the user, and referrer information to pass to our server. Corporate firewalls may have security parameters that cannot be changed by your company's network administrator. Please speak with your IT contact for possible ways to access the webcast. In the interim please be assured any portion that you've missed will be accessible on the archive. Users of personal firewalls such as Norton or McAfee please visit the help areas in the specific program to see how to permit "referrer" and "cookie" information. Or visit the help areas of their websites here: Norton or McAfee.
Users of VPNs:
If you are attending via VPN and experience buffering issues due to weak or slow connections, you can try opening the webcast directly in an internet browser.
